LEGO stores have been holding a Mini Model build event in LEGO stores every month. This store event started in 2009 and this year has been no different. One was held in January and this month, its here again. This event is normally held on the first week of every month and the little LEGO fans can learn how to build a specific mini model of that particular month in store and take their build home for free.

The event is open to kids aged 6 to 14 year olds only. The dates vary from month to month but they are normally announced in advance so parents can put the date in your diaries and take the little ones along for this event.

This month event takes place on the 2nd of Feb 2012 at 4pm if you live in the UK or Germany. In the US, this event starts on the 7th of Feb. 2012 at 5pm in a LEGO Store near you!

A good event to help the little ones explore their creativity and they will love being out playing in a LEGO store. This month’s mini model build is the LEGO Hockey Player Mini Model – image on the left.

Kids can also learn how to build this model from the comfort of their homes by following the instructions available via download from LEGO or the link below if you can’t make it to a LEGO shop or there isn’t one near where you live. Be aware this is available for a limited time only. Download the building instructions.

If you can’t make it to your local LEGO store for some reason, you can always build the Mini Model at home because LEGO posts the instructions online and you can use the pieces you have or order what you need from LEGO Pick a Brick Store.

Last week, The LEGO Group annouced the outcome of the votes for the VIP Exclusive LEGO Minifigures to be released in summer this year with some images as a tease to show what to expect. The ones that came up tops are the Elf, the Gorilla suit guy, the Mummy, the Fisherman, and the Space pirate.

Looking at these minifigs, they were in the Series 3 minifigures collection and I believe the Elf was a hit among LEGO fans. I’m not so sure about the rest but majority of the voters thought otherwise according to the missive from LEGO. The Elf minifig in my opinion is the best omong the lot and I get get enough of that. The rest seem just about average to me but the voters have spoken so we just have to go along with it. Not sure why I feel this way about them. Might it be that I’ve seen the others in other sets and some of them actually look better than these ones? The Mummy minifig does appear in the Pharoah Quest sets and to me they look cuter than this one here.

Anyhow, its LEGO so its all good. Its all I will say for now.

Consumer Products has awarded LEGO the rights to make mini figures and LEGO sets based on “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and the two upcoming films based on “The Hobbit,”.

The multiyear deal according to the press release by the LEGO Group, grants access to the library of characters, settings and stories of “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and “The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” all made by Peter Jackson and his filmaking team.

Already, Lego has released a page to tease its millions of fans of what to expect. Here’s a link to that page. LEGO® THE LORD OF THE RINGS construction sets are said to be “slated for a rolling global launch beginning in June 2012 in the United States, with LEGO THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY scheduled for later in the year”.

LEGO has announced the last day of orders where you’re guaranteed delivery before Christmas. If you place your order by midnight 18th of December, you should get your sets delivered by Christmas. Also, with this announcement, they have lowered the amount to you spend to get a free standard delivery. It is currently £25.00/$49.00 or more and you can have your order delivered free.

At the moment there are two fantastic sale items LEGO UK is running. Even though there others, I think LEGO fans will be happy to receive any of the two as a Christmas present.

1. LEGO 10199 Winter Toy Shop – This is one of the LEGO sets released as a seasonal set in the past year. Even though LEGO released one this year, I think with the current tag price of £33.74 from £44.99, its a great buy.

2. LEGO 10155 Maersk Container Ship – This set is selling out fast if you can afford to get one, the time would be about now. Its another classic, this one and it has been reduced from £102.99 to £72.09. So that’s a huge saving there.

With the free standard delivery and some VIP points to gain, they won’t be a bad purchase at all.

Happy shopping!
